These photos are of the rain chain that comes off one of the gutters at my house. It was raining when I took these photos, as you can see with the water splashing down between the links of the chain. Some of the challenges I faced when taking these photos was trying to keep my camera dry and dealing with the cloudy, low light.
These are photos of a flower that grows in my rain garden next to my house, I think it is a Purple Aster. I liked the look of the contrast between the yellow center of the flower and the purple petals when I was taking these photos. For the first photo, I pulled it apart and laid it on a black piece of paper. I had to photograph it outside because there wasn't much natural light coming into my house.
These photos are of a Bergamot plant, again in the rain garden. I photographed it because I thought the pockets and stem created a nice sense of depth. One of the challenges I faced was that it was blowing in the wind, which made my pictures blurry. I soled this by holding it still with my hand, which I also thought created a cool effect in the first image.
These two pictures are of a jar of lentils that I found on one of the shelves in my house. It is of some importance to me because my family has lentils a lot as part of our dinner. In the second photo I used a selective focus to blur out the jar, which put emphasis on all of the different shades of brown in the lentils.
I chose to take photos of this amethyst crystal because when I was younger I really liked to collect different types of rocks and minerals. I chose this one in particular because of the contrast in colors it contains. I originally tried to take photos of this inside and on a white background, but I moved to the porch to get better lighting.
